Letter to a Design Student
Dear Student,
I’ve been out of school for a little over 6 months now and still haven’t adjusted to the real world. Don’t get me wrong, I love doing what I do, but there are challenges and mental barriers to cross when transitioning from a student to a full-time worker. Here are some revelations I have encountered during the last few months that might be helpful in your...

5/23/11 - Tales from Ireland
Ireland has given me the chance to explore centuries year old castles, enjoy nightlife with the locals in picturesque cities, kiss a stone for luck, and see natural wonders like the Cliffs of Moher & Ring of Kerry. As I sit here reflecting on this journey, I realize that amidst the hustle & bustle of being in transit, I haven’t given myself time to process the grandeur of these...

Be jealous. Clips from Cliffs of Moher. Wish I had an Irish song, but Phoenix will have to do for now.

5/22/11 - Tales from Ireland
I didn’t feel much like writing yesterday. It was rainy most of the day. We visited sites such as the Waterford Crystal company and Blarney Castle.
Today was sunny with a few showers. We traveled around the Ring of Kerry. Words can’t describe how beautiful it was (pics/video to come). Following that, a few of us took a horse & buggy ride around Killarney. It’s 6:20 pm here now. Tomorrow we’re...

05/20/11 - Tales from Ireland
“The grass is always greener on the other side,” people say. I often dismiss these cliched statements, but it seems to ring especially true here in the land of the green.
I was with two friends, Kelli and Destinie, exploring the city of Kilkenny and we stopped by a restaurant/pub called Syd Harkin’s. It was a quaint locally owned spot that had a warm atmosphere. There was an old fireplace in the...

5/19/2011 - Tales from Ireland
I’m sitting in a lobby area typing with a man speaking in Spanish to my right. American music is playing softly in the background, lights are dimmed, and the gentle sound of chatter and the clinging of glassware is coming from a restaurant behind me. This casual environment is no doubt a contrast to the events of today.
The flight to Ireland was surprisingly short in comparison to my trip to...

We’re here! Check out the Queen…history in the making! Sorry I haven’t posted more. My device died and we’ve had little access to free wifi. It’s 10:30 pm here now. We have a big day planned tomorrow.

Bono, Here I Come
Wednesday marks an exciting journey as I begin my travels overseas with fellow Mount Olive College faculty/staff and honors students to Ireland.
When I first heard we were going there, I was slightly disappointed. We were originally set to go to Egypt, but our plans were revamped due to the uprising. I had built up this image in my head of pretending I would be like Brendan Fraser as I explored...
